Riding Steers have been apart
of my life for many years now. After starting
www.ridingsteers.com that soon
turned into the International Riding Steer Assn, I decided to write a book,
that has been a pretty good seller world wide and I hope has helped people
enjoy their cattle to the fullest. After many requests for lessons and clinics
I have decided to open my home and offer my animals to those who wish to take
their learning further.
We have been re-decorating our
home. For those that have ever had to restore or bring up to code an old farm
house Im sure you know why this has taken me a while to offer my home to
others. After all these years, my boys are moved out and the up stairs of my
home will now be ready for visitors this spring. YEAY! I have an
upstairs!
What I DO offer
You are welcome to your own
privet room and bath room.
You will be served meals.
Normally Breakfast and dinner. We are normally to busy for lunch unless it is
really hot and we decide to take a mid day break.
You are welcome to use my
washer and make your self as much at home as you feel comfortable with.
We will have a computer in
your room as well as TV for your relaxation and convenience.
We aren't fancy so don't
expect it!
Training and Lessons
Training will start at a level
you feel comfortable with. I have a form I will mail you that you will fill
out to help me, help you get the most out of your time here. You can print it
out here.
On the ranch you will find
calves that are at various levels in training. Some have never been handled,
some are just getting started and some are well on their way to being
wonderful companions. We have older cattle of all ages and training levels. We
offer riding lessons on steers that have given countless lessons befor, and
steers that are pretty green for those who want to learn to train cattle to
ride rather than learn to ride themselves. Riding a bovine is very different
than riding a horse. Most people do need a few basics even if they are
seasoned horsemen.
I also offer driving lessons.
You can learn to harness, and drive a bovine. Learn the difference in what a
bovine needs in the way of harness vs what a horse needs. Learn how to set up
a harness for the breed you have at home, or bring your own animal with you.
Learn how to trick train
your cow or steer.
Make your own halter in our
custom leather shop and learn the art of basic leather work.
Learn what to look for in a
prospective riding steer or a cow you wish to use to produce riding or driving
cattle.
Rates and Rules
If you are an active
International Riding Steer Assn. member that has been active in the IRSA for
over a year you qualify for reduced rates. Please
contact me personally to get
your own personal quote.
Week end lessons as well as
week long lessons are highly customizable. Lessons come in either a 3 day or
6/7 day package.
There for rates will
vary with every lesson, and every person. Someone that wants to bring their
own animal, as well as make their own halter, etc will cost me more to house,
and to comply with than someone that uses the cattle Im already feeding, and
does not want to use my leather, silver etc. This is why I require everyone
fill out the form in order to receive a quote made specially for them.
*I will not be held
responsible for accidents, or injury* You will sign a release form. I do not
allow people to bring pets or children unless the children are also enrolled
in lessons and are over the age of 7. It must be the child's idea and not the
parents if they are to come and learn. I will ask to talk to the young student
before excepting them. Im not a day camp, Im a hard ass instructor that
spoils children unmercifully.
No pets allowed. If its not a
service animal, don't even ask.
Health papers required on all
animals. I do not participate in NAIS , not animals tracking will be done on
this NON-Premise. If your animal shows up skinny, with ring worm or any other
condition that I feel will effect its performance or the health of my other
animals you will not be allowed to unload. I don't care if you do have a
health certificate. Your animal will be healthy, well cared for and well fed
if it is to learn. ( sorry to be so blunt, but you would be surprised at what
I have seen)
