What is NAIS and how will it effect you?

As of August 3, 2007 Im now back in the Longhorn breeding business. I know your probably thinking you only have 2 cows, how can you be in the cattle business. That's easy. If you have 10 head that only make you about 850. per weaned calf or you can have 2 cows that make you about 5,000. per weaned calf, how many cows do you need to own to be in the cattle business? To me good business is making the largest profit with the least amount of expense. So you tell me, am I in the cattle business again!

Texas Longhorn cattle have been very good to me. I could never have made the profits I have with any other breed. I have heard other cattlemen state that they don't want injury from the horns. Texas Longhorn cattle do not use their horns like other breeds, there for they do not cause the damage that other breeds do.

I have heard from other Riding Steer members that the Brown Swiss or Holstein are the most docile of breeds. I owned a Brown Swiss Holstein cross and have been around other steers from those breeds. In my humble opinion those who try to sell me on the temperament of dairy breeds are also those who can't afford a Texas Longhorn. In my opinion the Longhorn is worth the money for temperament and intelligence alone.

The Longhorn is versatile, can be ridden for many miles with out tiring. Their knees don't blow out with age and the fact I don't have to vaccinate and they never get sick saves me allot of money. Add to that the fact they get fat on the worst pasture gives them my vote for the breed One Sky Ranch will always own and be proud of.

     Wado

Wado is just an awesome cow! She is 42" tall, bred for temperament with loads of Jet Jockey, Bail Jumper and Classic for that touch of horns. Im working her now to get her pulling my buggy. I just love this cow! She is a full sister to Sari, and mother of Walayla

Wado is a program cow for the IRSA breeding program.

She is 1yr and 5months in this photo above and 5 months in the photo below. Layla is red speckled and spotting out more everyday.

Above is Wado's heifer calf, Walayla. She is 1yr and 5months in this photo.. Got horn? Layla is 38" and will be added to our miniature Longhorn breeding program. Her temperament is just as good as her mothers.. WOW!

    Masialina

This is Masialina I will co-own her calves on a every other year basis with Caleb Omolo. Here she is with Sari on her birthday. Malina has a triple twist horn and her temperament is as fancy as she is. Malina is 12yrs old this year (2008)
